Teaser Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme hosted by Miz B of A Daily Rhythm. Anyone can participate, just do the following:
- Grab your current read and open to a random page
- Share two (2) "teaser" sentences from somewhere on that page.
- BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (Make sure what you share doesn't give too much away! You don't want to ruin the book for others!)
- Share the title and the author so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR lists if they like your teasers.

"I am afraid of many things. Drowning, fire, the disapproval of strangers on the Internet, that I'll be hit by a bus without having had the chance to clear my browser history, that one day everyone else on the subway will suddenly be able to hear what I'm thinking and turn on me. You know, the usuals."
This is from page 3 of A Field Guide to Awkward Silences: Essays by Alexandra Petri. From what I've read of the book so far, she is funny and as the synopsis says, not afraid to make a fool of herself.
Synopsis from Goodreads.com:
Washington Post columnist Alexandra Petri turns her satirical eye on her own life in this hilarious new memoir...
Most twentysomethings spend a lot of time avoiding awkwardness. Not Alexandra Petri.
Afraid of rejection? Alexandra Petri has auditioned for America’s Next Top Model. Afraid of looking like an idiot? Alexandra Petri lost Jeopardy! by answering “Who is that dude?” on national TV. Afraid of bad jokes? Alexandra Petri won an international pun championship.
Petri has been a debutante, reenacted the Civil War, and fended off suitors at a Star Wars convention while wearing a Jabba the Hutt suit. One time, she let some cult members she met on the street baptize her, just to be polite. She’s a connoisseur of the kind of awkwardness that most people spend whole lifetimes trying to avoid. If John Hodgman and Amy Sedaris had a baby…they would never let Petri babysit it.
But Petri is here to tell you: Everything you fear is not so bad. Trust her. She’s tried it. And in the course of her misadventures, she’s learned that there are worse things out there than awkwardness—and that interesting things start to happen when you stop caring what people think.

Hahaha! What a great teaser! I'm going to have to add this to the list :)

It's a funny book. I'm about a third of the way done and, of course, some parts are better than others, but overall it's quite humorous. I enjoyed your teasers too. The second one sounds like they will have a fun time trying to find love with the way they've hit it off in Of Triton.
DeleteFunny teaser, sounds like this might be a fun read!
ReplyDeleteIt's fun so far. She is a little outrageous at times, but fun. She does things I would never consider doing like pretending she was nuts when a couple in front of her in line try to draw her into their argument. Thanks for sharing your teasers too!
DeleteGreat teaser! Not one I would have picked up, so I'm glad you featured it!
ReplyDeleteMine this week is a historical fiction set in Biblical times: http://pdworkman.com/excerpt-from-the-centurions-wife/
That's an interesting time period the book is set in, particularly the time around Christ's crucifixion and resurrection. As you say it's an appropriate read for the season. Thanks for sharing it and for coming by!
DeleteLooks like a fun read! Great teaser!
ReplyDeleteHere's mine for this week: http://justasecondblog.blogspot.com/2015/03/teaser-tuesdays-march-31-2015.html
That's some teaser you've got too. Wondering which would be more maddening, the missing page or the fact the journal was "borrowed"...
DeleteIt's funny you featured this as I've been thinking about how I was when I was younger and less self confident. Might make me laugh and cry. LOL

I like your teaser too. And yeah, some of the things hit home, but haven't made me cry. And some of the things she does are so outrageous I wonder if anyone else would have made the same decision in her shoes.
DeleteWow, this character must be an introvert, she sounds a lot like me! Thanks for sharing this, I know this would be something I would enjoy :)
ReplyDeleteShe is probably introverted in some situations, but there are others where her choice of action is way out there. :)
DeleteLOVE your Teaser! This sounds like a funny book.
ReplyDeleteMy Tuesday post features THE ROSIE PROJECT.
Someone like Sheldon Cooper looking for love sounds very interesting. Thanks for sharing your teaser!
DeleteSounds like a fun read.
ReplyDeleteSo far, so fun at 60 pages. Hope you are enjoying yours as well!
DeleteI adore Petri! I'll definitely be picking this up!
ReplyDeletehttp://wellreadpiratequeen.blogspot.com/2015/03/teaser-tuesday-7.html is mine
Loved your teaser too. I hadn't read Howl's Castle either! Now I have to put it on my TBR.
