Review: Solomon's Whisper by Sandra Brannan

Solomon's whisper by Sandra Brannan is book 5 in her Liv Bergen mystery series. Liv is a former miner from a large family who has become an FBI agent. She is concerned that being an agent puts her family in danger and is thinking about quitting the FBI. She agreed to 6 months as a sort of trial period during which she would decide if she wants to continue working there.

As enticement, her boss gives her a cold case to examine: the murder of her niece from several years ago. Then again she is made lead agent on a much publicized case that has become cold as well, the murder of a child much like JonBenet Ramsey. Liv solves the murders and then some with the help and support of her boss, Streeter.

The character of Liv Bergen does some changing and stretching in this book that will undoubtedly extend into the next. Streeter, her boss, also reaches some conclusions about how he feels about Liv that will effect their future relationship.

Action seemed a little slow in the beginning of the book, but momentum increases as the pages go by. At the end I found myself holding my breath reading what would happen next. It's really a thrilling conclusion. The character of Camera Casey seemed to fill a temporary need in the book and was particularly kind of creepy.

All in all, it's a good book. I would buy it for someone else I knew who enjoyed this type of book. I would recommend this book to people who like strong female characters, suspense novels, and thrillers.

I give this book 4 out or 5 stars. The writing is well done. The characters and plot are interesting. And the conclusion is mind blowing, especially if you have read Noah's Rainy Day. But, this can be read as a stand alone novel and appreciated.

My teasers come from Solomon's Whisper by Sandra Brannan. It's the fifth book in the Liv Bergen series, released in September of 2014.

"Everyone else has knocked off for the day, except you." He paused for a second before adding, "You know how to eat an elephant don't you?"

I answered with obvious frustration,  "Yes. You've told me.  One bite at a time."

"He" is Streeter, Liv's boss. And the "I" is Liv Bergen an FBI agent. Liv is a bit of a workaholic. She is working 2 cases at this point in the book (40% in on my Kindle). One is a cold case, the murder of her niece Brianna. The other is the murder of a young girl much like JonBenet Ramsey. The teaser comes from 41% through.

Waiting on Wednesday #47 - Solomon's Whisper by Sandra Brannan

"Waiting on Wednesday" is a weekly event hosted by Jill over at Breaking the Spine where we spotlight upcoming releases we are eagerly anticipating. 

This week I am waiting on Solomon's Whisper by Sandra Brannan. It's due out September 2, 2014 from the Greenleaf Book Group. Sandra Brannan writes some seriously creepy and suspenseful thrillers. This promises to be another good one.

Trying to convince Liv Bergen from resigning from the FBI to return to mining after nearly losing her nephew, Streeter Pierce asks Liv for one condition: to wait six months before making her resignation official or public.

Five months into the condition, Streeter becomes desperate to keep Liv, so he bends the rules and assigns her a seven year old cold case – Brianna Keller, a young girl taken from her bedroom during a slumber party and found dead along the road in the desert near Vegas. Streeter believes if Liv sees how she can help her family, help avenge a child’s death, she may not feel as if she’s endangering them. So what better way than to assign her Brianna’s case? Review: Noah's Rainy Day by Sandra Brannan

Noah's Rainy Day by Sandra Brannan is a recent release from Greenleaf Book Group Press on September 3, 2013.

It's an interesting book with an unlikely cast member, Noah Hogarty - Liv Bergen's nephew who has severe Cerebral Palsy. I like the way that Sandra Brannan shows that he has normal thought processes. He can communicate, but it's not easy. He and his family have developed a method to spell out words and shortcuts for yes and no questions. Bur often times, other than when he is talking with his sister Emma, he gets frustrated with the alphabet method.

Noah can see into their neighbor's house from his picture window. They call his neighbor "Mr. Creepy." What he sees, he has trouble communicating clearly because Emma isn't around. And he and Emma have trouble earlier getting anyone to believe them about what is going on over there. This makes it somewhat like the movie, Rear Window. 

It's Christmas Eve, and Little Max is missing from Denver International Airport. Liv and her canine partner Beulah, along with the rest of the team must work together round the clock to try and keep this from becoming a fatality.

In addition to the mystery, there is a bit of a love triangle going on. Liv is being drawn in 2 directions at the same time. It's nice because among other things it humanizes the characters involved.

There is a little repetition in the beginning, but it gets better as the book progresses. The mystery is handled believably. Noah's presence gives it a breath of fresh air. I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.
