Happy Book Birthday to You Did Nothing Wrong by CG Drews and Finlay Donovan Crosses the Line by Elle Cosimano

Through Raspberry Colored Glasses wishes a Happy Book Birthday to You Did Nothing Wrong by CG Drews and Finlay Donovan Crosses the Line by Elle Cosimano. These are two very different books being born today but both are good reads in their own ways. CG Drews' book leans toward gothic suspense while Elle Cosimano's book is a humorous mystery.

From the publisher:

Dark domestic suspense meets haunted house horror in this unnerving adult debut guaranteed to keep you awake for days afterward, from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Don’t Let the Forest In and Hazelthorn

The walls are closing in on her perfect new life.

Single mother Elodie’s life has become a fairy tale. She’s met Bren, equal parts Golden-retriever-devoted and sinfully handsome. He’s whisked her and her autistic son, Jude, to the crumbling family house he’s renovating. She has a new husband, a new house, and a new baby on the way. Everything is perfect.

Until Jude claims he can hear voices in the walls. He says their renovations are “hurting” the house. Even Elodie can’t ignore it―something strange is going on.

The question is, Is it with the house, or with her son?

And what is Elodie hiding?

From the publisher:

Life hasn’t been easy for Finlay Donovan lately, but it just got a whole lot harder. Her nanny and partner-in-crime, Vero, has been extradited from Virginia to Maryland, where she’s facing criminal charges for a theft she swears she didn’t commit. A prisoner to an ankle bracelet as she awaits her trial, Vero is forced to live with her overbearing mother and nosy aunt. Threatening messages keep arriving on her mother’s door, demanding Vero “turn over the money . . . or else.” And if she doesn’t figure out who really stole her former sorority’s treasury funds, her next home might be a prison cell.

But proving her innocence might be an impossible feat. Vero was the treasurer of her sorority when the money went missing—one of the only people who had access to the cash. And her alibi is a date who ghosted her. With her court date quickly approaching, and her mysterious stalker on her tail, Vero needs to clear her name fast.

Finlay decides a trip to Maryland is in order. After all, Vero stood by her through her darkest moments, and Finlay will be damned if she lets her best friend and children’s nanny be convicted for something she didn’t do. She sets off on a mission to suss out the real thief and bring Vero home.

I've read You Did Nothing Wrong and it's good. Review to come this week of this book that manages to be both a gothic horror story and a suspense title. This book was released today from St. Martin's Press.

And I listened to a 12 chapter sample of the audiobook for Finlay Donovan Crosses the Line. The audiobook version was released today by Macmillan Audio. I love the characters, especially Finlay and Vero. It's a good humorous cozy. So far it's not quite as wild as other titles in the series, but that's ok. I have to get the rest of the book now. I want to find out who is trying to frame Vero. And how do they get her out of hot water?

Hope you have a great Tuesday!

Can't Wait Wednesday/Waiting on Wednesday #579: Last Night Was Killer by Mary Pauline Lowry

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event that had been hosted by Jill over at Breaking the Spine where we spotlighted upcoming releases we are eagerly anticipating. I'm now linking up with Can't Wait Wednesday hosted over at Wishful Endings.

From the publisher: A suspenseful, bighearted, and laugh-out-loud story of a single mom trying to do it all—including solve a murder she may or may not have committed…

When Tilly Turner signed up for an introductory pole-dancing class, she was looking for a distraction. Reeling from her mother’s passing, and with her career as a stand-up comedian in ruins, Tilly has just moved back to the Idaho hometown she was desperate to leave, with her twin daughters in tow.

But Tilly gets more than she bargained for after a night out with her new pole-dancing pals. She wakes to a raging hangover, no memory of the evening before, and a dead body in the trunk of her car.

Who was the dead man? And more importantly, who killed him? Tilly has no alibi and needs answers. But investigating a murder is complicated, especially with an old frenemy circling, childcare plans falling through, and pole-dancing classes to attend. And don’t even mention the sexy ATF agent who she’s trying (and failing) to keep at arm’s length.

As Tilly races to solve the mystery before the police come knocking, she finds herself implicated in a larger plot that includes political subterfuge and arms dealing. But who knows—maybe busting a criminal enterprise will be just the shake-up she needs.

Balancing both heart and hilarity, and with a witty take on the struggles of modern motherhood, Last Night Was Killer is a charming introduction to the most unlikely—and likable—of sleuths.

Last Night Was Killer by Mary Pauline Lowry is expected out July 7, 2026 from William Morrow.

Why am I waiting on this book? This sounds like a fun read. It reminds me of Elle Cosimano and Jesse Q. Sutanto in that it sounds funny and has a mysterious dead body. I'm guessing if you like books by those two writers, then you will probably like this one as well.

Can't Wait Wednesday/Waiting on Wednesday #577: A Bride's Guide to Happiness and Homicide by Kristen Bird

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event that had been hosted by Jill over at Breaking the Spine where we spotlighted upcoming releases we are eagerly anticipating. I'm now linking up with Can't Wait Wednesday hosted over at Wishful Endings.

This week I'm waiting on:

From the publisher: When Dakota Green’s best friend asks her to be the maid of honor, she expects champagne toasts and bouquet tosses—not a dead priest in the holly bushes of The Rose Palace estate. But in Aubergine, Virginia, something borrowed and something blue might just include a corpse or two.

A winter getaway in the Blue Ridge Mountains should be wonderland bliss for pre-wedding festivities. Instead, it’s a blizzard of suspicion as the groom’s Texas relatives arrive with secrets as deep as the falling snow.

Just when Dakota thinks she can’t handle one more wedding disaster, the officiating priest takes a fatal plunge from the fourth floor, with a bullet through his heart and Dakota’s boyfriend Sheriff Charlie Strong becomes the prime suspect.

With Charlie behind bars and the wedding hours away, Dakota must clear his name while ensuring her best friend gets her perfect day. Between a gun-wielding father of the groom, a scandalous romance and a bride who refuses to postpone, Dakota faces her greatest challenge yet. Can she unmask a killer before the wedding march? Or will this matrimony end in mayhem?

If you love the humor of Janet Evanovich and Elle Cosimano, the charm of small-town secrets, and amateur sleuths with a flair for finding trouble, this maid-of-honor mystery is your perfect match.

A Bride's Guide to Happiness and Homicide by Kristen Bird is expected out January 23, 2026 from Storm Publishing. This is the third book in the Dakota Green Mystery series. Book one, A Beauty Queen's Guide to Murder and Mayhem, is currently available on Kindle Unlimited. I receive nothing for sharing this information with you.

Why am I waiting on this book? The cover is striking as is the title. The wedding she is to attend is plagued with murder and mayhem.  And I'm intrigued by the comparison to both Elle Cosimano and Janet Evanovich. Elle Cosimano in particular is a favorite of mine for the humorous mysteries she writes.

What book are you waiting on? Share it and a link in the comments so we can check it out and maybe add it to our ever growing To Be Read lists. Thanks for coming by. Happy Reading!

Can't Wait Wednesday/Waiting on Wednesday #575: Everyone in This Bank Is a Thief by Benjamin Stevenson

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event that had been hosted by Jill over at
Breaking the Spine where we spotlighted upcoming releases we are eagerly anticipating. I'm now linking up with Can't Wait Wednesday hosted over at Wishful Endings.

From the publisher: Ten heists. Ten suspects. A murder mystery only Ernest Cunningham can solve in this delightfully clever and twisty new novel in Benjamin Stevenson’s bestselling series—perfect for fans of Richard Osman and Anthony Horowitz.

I’ve spent the last few years solving murders. But a bank heist is a new one, even for me. I’ve never been a hostage before.

The doors are chained shut. No one in or out. Which means that when someone in the bank is murdered, everyone is a suspect.

THE BANK ROBBER, THE MANAGER, THE SECURITY GUARD, THE KID, THE FILM PRODUCER, THE PRIEST, THE RECEPTIONIST, THE PATIENT, THE CAREGIVER, ME

Turns out, more than one person planned to rob the bank today. You can steal more from a bank than just money.

Who is stealing what? Are they willing to kill for it? And can I solve the crime before the police kick down the door and rescue us?

Everyone in This Bank Is a Thief by Benjamin Stevenson is expected out March 17, 2026 from Mariner Books.

Why am I waiting on this book? I've enjoyed all the other books I've read by this author. The mysteries are clever. And there is humor to the telling of the stories. Ernest Cunningham makes a good sympathetic main character. I want to know what happened in the bank and see how Ernest will solve it.

What book are you waiting on? Share it and a link in the comments so we can check it out and maybe add it to our ever growing To Be Read lists. Thanks for coming by. Happy Reading!

Teaser Tuesday: Haunted Homecoming by Angie Fox

Welcome to Teaser Tuesday, the weekly Meme that wants you to add books to your TBR! You can also just share what you are currently reading. We make it very easy to play along. It's as easy as 1, 2, 3! Teaser Tuesday is hosted by Ambrosia at the Purple Booker.

1: Grab your current read. 2: Open to a random page. 3: Share two "teaser" sentences from somewhere on that page.

BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! Share the title and author so that other people can add the book to their TBR lists if they like your teaser!

Heaven knew I’d been a handful for her at times. Like when I was out in the backyard sandbox as a child and thought I’d discovered dinosaur fossils. I’d proudly showed her my discovery, but it turned out my “rare artifacts” were just old dried-up cat droppings.

Fox, Angie. The Haunted Homecoming: A Paranormal Cozy Mystery Romance (Southern Ghost Hunter Mysteries Book 10) (pp. 17-18). Kindle Edition.

You can follow the adventures of Verity and her ghostly co-resident Frankie in Sugarland, Tennessee in the Southern Ghost Hunter Series. There's usually plenty of humor and a good mystery. Ghost Frankie does not have the typical romantic relationship with Verity often found in similar mysteries. Instead they are reluctant partners in solving mysteries. Usually there is one mystery of the living and a related one of the dead. The books in the series are a fun read as is this one so far. If you enjoy humorous paranormal cozies you may want to give this series a try. Book one, Southern Spirits, is currently free on Kindle. I do not benefit from sharing this information with you. Happy Reading!

Book Review: Back in Black by Julie Mulhern

Back in Black by Julie Mulhern is the 18th book in the Country Club Murders series. Even so, she manages to make the plot interesting. Ellison, the main character, hosts a luncheon for a friend visiting from New York. Unfortunately, murder is dessert. Ellison is immediately and inevitably drawn into the investigation. There is a second plot involving theft and murder with friends as suspects. Ellison, being the kind hearted individual that she is, volunteers to help plan the funerals. And it all gives her quite the headache as she tries to avoid becoming the next funeral.

Both plots are ultimately entwined. There are mysteries and thrills as well as twists and red herrings. I have to say that I did not see the end coming. After 18 books, I think it's great that Julie Mulhern can still surprise readers.

Honestly. while you could read this without reading the others, it would be a lot better if you have read other books in the series. The characters grow as the series goes on. The pacing and mysteries are deftly handled. It's hard to put down one of these stories. The Kindle version of the first book, The Deep End, is a reasonably priced $2.99 at present. I gain nothing by sharing that information with you. I would recommend this book to people who enjoy series and humorous cozies, especially those set in the 1970s.

I found three courses for lunch to be two too many, but I'd happily agreed to meet her there. Mainly because I adored the chocolates they sold near the front entrance. I'd say their dark chocolate hearts were to die for but given my track record that seemed like tempting fate.

p. 87

Back in Black by Julie Mulhern was released October 2024 by J & M Press. It's number 18 in The Country Club Murders series.

The series is excellent at combining mystery and humor set in the 1970s. The most recent book in the series, Bad Blood (#20) was released August 26, 2025. The Kindle version of the first book in the series, The Deep End, is currently available on Amazon for $1.49

Can't Wait Wednesday/Waiting on Wednesday #563: Lit by Tim Sandlin

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event that had been hosted by Jill over at Breaking the Spine where we spotlighted upcoming releases we are eagerly anticipating. I'm now linking up with Can't Wait Wednesday hosted over at Wishful Endings.

From the publisher: Tim Sandlin is back with a deliciously subversive take on a “cozy” mystery that deftly, shrewdly and humorously reflects our turbulent times.

In a small town in the woods of northwest Wyoming, Kasey Cobb lives alone in a cabin, runs a drive-through coffee kiosk, and hangs out at the library, reading the classics. He’s the least-likely guy to become the center of a culture clash… and death. Yet that’s what happens when he strays past a book-bonfire, ignited by a pastor and his hapless followers, and inadvertently rescues a self-important (drunk) author from being burned with his obscure novel.

From that moment on, Kasey’s life becomes a whirlwind that sweeps up a laconic lawman, a pissed off grizzly bear, a relentless podcaster, a sensuous librarian obsessed with death, a fierce female rancher and, most troublesome of all, a devious murderer. And yet, amidst the chaos, Kasey chases another shot at a lasting love, even if it might kill him.

"Tim Sandlin writes about falling down, screwing up, and climbing back to grace with more wit and heart than anyone writing today." Wally Lamb

Lit by Tim Sandlin is expected out December 2, 2025 from Brash Books.

Why am I waiting on this book? I like cozy mysteries. I think it's an interesting idea to have a subversive take on the genre. And I like that this author incorporates humor into his works.

What book are you waiting on? Share it and a link in the comments so we can check it out and maybe add it to our TBR lists. Thanks for coming by. Happy Reading!

Book Review: Finlay Donovan Digs Her Own Grave by Elle Cosimano

From the publisher:

Finlay Donovan may have skeletons in her closet . . . but at least there's not a body in her backyard.

Finlay Donovan and her nanny/partner-in-crime, Vero, have not always gotten along with Finlay’s elderly neighbor, Mrs. Haggerty, the community busybody and president of the neighborhood watch. But when a dead body is discovered in her backyard, Mrs. Haggerty needs their help. At first a suspect, Mrs. Haggerty is cleared by the police, but her house remains an active crime scene. She has nowhere to go . . . except Finlay’s house, right across the street.

Finlay and Vero have no interest in getting involved in another murder case—or sacrificing either of their bedrooms. After all, they’ve dealt with enough murders over the last four months to last a lifetime and they both would much rather share their beds with someone else.

When the focus of the investigation widens to include Finlay’s ex-husband, Steven, though, Finlay and Vero are left with little choice but to get closer to Mrs. Haggerty and uncover her secrets . . . before the police start digging up theirs. But who will solve the mystery first?

Finlay Donovan Digs Her Own Grave by Elle Cosimano was published March 4th, 2025 by Minotaur Books. This is book 5 in the series.

My thoughts: was really looking forward to this book. I was not disappointed. There is a really good mystery. A little less Vero than I would have liked, but more Mrs. Haggerty. Mrs. Haggerty is often a scene stealer, but this book couldn't have happened without her.

Characterizations were well done. Finlay continues to grow in her relationship with Nick. Vero and Javi are struggling to grow as a couple. Mrs. Haggerty is gradually revealed as the plot goes on.

The story moves along at a good pace. It kept me turning the pages to see what would happen next. As in the other books some of the goings on are a stretch of the imagination, but overall it's a fun read.

I gave this book 5 out of 5 stars. I wasn't crazy about the cliffhanger at the end of the book, but I was happy with the way the mystery was resolved. I would recommend this series to people who enjoy humorous cozies. And it's better read from book one on. This series would make a great beach read.

"Speaking of cops. does your new boyfriend have any idea when they're going to take down the police tape across the street? I know it's only been a week since they found the body at Mrs. Haggerty's place, but the Patels are getting ready to put their house on the market and they're worried the whole crime-scene vibe will make it harder to sell."

Can't Wait Wednesday/Waiting on Wednesday #558: Finlay Donovan Crosses the Line by Elle Cosimano

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event that had been hosted by Jill over at Breaking the Spine where we spotlighted upcoming releases we are eagerly anticipating. I'm now linking up with Can't Wait Wednesday hosted over at Wishful Endings

From the publisher: Life hasn’t been easy for Finlay Donovan lately, but it just got a whole lot harder. Finlay Donovan Crosses the Line by Elle Cosimano is expected out March 10, 2026 from Minotaur Books. It's book 6 in the Finlay Donovan series.

Why am I waiting on this book? It's a bit of a wait, but I think it will be worth it. This series is hilarious. The situations and the things that Finlay and Vero have done are sometimes way over the top, but they are funny. It's a cozy mystery and an adventure when the two of them are involved. It is light reading, which sometimes we really need.

Can't Wait Wednesday/Waiting on Wednesday #554: Lies and Dolls by Nev Fountain

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event that had been hosted by Jill over at Breaking the Spine where we spotlighted upcoming releases we are eagerly anticipating. I'm now linking up with Can't Wait Wednesday hosted over at Wishful Endings

From the publisher: A pacy, laugh-out-loud funny whodunnit set in the world of cult sci-fi fandom, this novel sees the return of neurodiverse sleuth Kit Pelham as she investigates the destruction of rare vintage action figures and an actual murder at a rare toy museum. Perfect for fans of Richard Osman, J. M. Hall, Ian Moore and Andrew Cartmel.

Professional cult sci-fi fan Kit Pelham returns in this laugh-out-loud-funny follow-up to The Fan Who Knew Too Much.

When Kit and her best friend Binfire head to a stately home in Lincolnshire to view five ultra-rare Vixens from the Void action figures – the main exhibit at the opening of a new toy museum – they come across more than just nerds and toy-collectors. The figures are stolen from their glass case and, just as Kit and Binfire begin to get their heads around this mystery, they start to reappear, broken into pieces, left for their distraught owners to discover.

And that’s when the real killings start.

Lies and Dolls by Nev Fountain is expected out July 22, 2025 from Titan Books. It's book two of The Kit Pelham Mysteries.

Why am I waiting on this book: It sounds like a fun mystery read. I like the idea that the main character is neurodiverse. And while I hope to read book one at some point, I am hoping it can be read as a standalone.

What book are you waiting on? Share it or a link in the comments so we can check it out and maybe add it to our TBR lists. Thanks for coming by and Happy Reading!

Can't Wait Wednesday/Waiting on Wednesday #540: The Ex-Girlfriend Murder Club by Gloria Chao

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event that had been hosted by Jill over at Breaking the Spine where we spotlighted upcoming releases we are eagerly anticipating. I'm now linking up with Can't Wait Wednesday hosted over at Wishful Endings

From the publisher: In this laugh-out-loud murder mystery, three women dating the same man band together to get revenge, but when they discover his body, they'll need to solve his murder before they go down for it.

The body in the closet was going to be a problem. Kathryn Hu knew it. Yes, Tucker Jones was a cheating scumbag, and yes, she’d agreed to meet Olivia and Elle—Tucker’s other girlfriends—to exact revenge for all he’d put them through… But then they found him. Dead.

Do they look guilty? Yes.

Do they feel guilty for having wished him dead just hours before? Maybe a little.

But—solid motive and a crime scene covered in their DNA aside—they’re innocent. They swear.

To clear their names, Kat, Olivia, and Elle team up to find the real killer. But as they go undercover and lie to everyone, including the hot detective working the case, they realize that every person in their ex's life had a reason to want him dead. Will they uncover the truth before they go down for a murder they didn't commit?

Filled with humor and shenanigans, The Ex-Girlfriend Murder Club is a romp of an adventure by award-winning author Gloria Chao, perfect for fans of Dial A for AuntiesFinlay Donovan Is Killing It and John Tucker Must Die.

The Ex-Girlfriend Murder Club by Gloria Chao is expected out June 24, 2025 from MIRA.

Why am I waiting on this book? It sounds like it will be a fun read. I loved both Dial A for Aunties and Finlay Donovan Is Killing it. This book is suggested for fans of those two books. I think there's a high probability I will enjoy it. I want to know what happens to these ladies and how they go about solving the mystery.

What book are you waiting on? Share it or a link in the comments so we can check it out and maybe add it to our TBR lists. Thanks for coming by and Happy Reading!

Happy Book Birthday to If I stopped Haunting You by Colby Wilkens and The Busybodies Collection

Through Raspberry Colored Glasses wishes a Happy Book Birthday to If I Stopped Haunting You by Colby Wilkens and to The Busybodies Collection

From the publisher:

An enemies to lovers romance with a spooky twist where two feuding writers end up on a writers retreat together at a haunted castle in Scotland

It's been months since horror author Penelope Skinner threw a book at Neil Storm. But he was so infuriating, with his sparkling green eyes and his bestselling horror novels that claimed to break Native stereotypes. And now she’s a publishing pariah and hasn’t been able to write a word since. So when her friend invites her on a too-good-to-be-true writers retreat in a supposedly haunted Scottish castle, she seizes the opportunity. Of course, some things really are too good to be true.

Neil wants nothing less than to be trapped in a castle with the frustratingly adorable woman who threw a book at him. She drew blood! Worse still, she unleashed a serious case of self-doubt! Neil is terrified to write another bestselling “book without a soul,” as Pen called it. All Neil wants is to find inspiration, while completely avoiding her.

But as the retreat begins, Pen and Neil are stunned to find themselves trapped in a real-life ghost story. Even more horrifying, they’re stuck together and a truly shocking (extremely hot) almost-kiss has left them rethinking their feelings, and… maybe they shouldn’t have been enemies at all? But if they can’t stop the ghosts pursuing them, they may never have the chance to find out.

Full of spooky chills and even more sexy thrills, If I Stopped Haunting You by Colby Wilkens is the funny, fast-paced romp romance readers have been waiting for!

If I Stopped Haunting You by Colby Wilkens is being released today by St. Martin's Griffin.

I've just recently started this book. I don't read much romance. I am finding this one appealing so far and looking forward to getting into the paranormal aspects and seeing how that affects the main characters. Review to come.

From the publisher:

Every nosy neighbor, gossipy friend, and meddling relative is just one good mystery away from becoming a detective. From behind locked doors or out in broad daylight, driven by chance or curiosity, amateur sleuths get in over their heads in these six hair-raising, hilarious stories.

Busybodies is being released today as a collection of six stories from Amazon Original Stories.

I've read books previously by 2 of the authors - Elle Cosimano and Jesse Q. Sutanto. Both of them write top notch humorous mysteries. I am looking forward to reading the selections by the other authors as well. I am thinking I might find some new favorites. Review to come.

Can't Wait Wednesday/Waiting on Wednesday #482: Killing Me Softly by Julie Mulhern

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event that had been hosted by Jill over at Breaking the Spine where we spotlighted upcoming releases we are eagerly anticipating. I'm now linking up with Can't Wait Wednesday hosted over at Wishful Endings.

From the publisher: Ellison Russell Jones’ best friend Libba has a questionable track record when it comes to men. But finally—finally—she’s selected a good one.

Charlie Ardmore hales from a fine family, plays a mean game of golf, and is a cardiologist.

Even Mothers approves.

But when Charlie’s patients start dying, the whispers begin. Is Charlie a killer?

Could Harrington Walford, Ellison’s beloved father and one of Charlie’s patients, be the next to die?

Can Ellison stop a killer in time?

Killing Me Softly by Julie Mulhern will be available December 26th, 2023. It can be preordered at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Apple Books.

Why am I waiting on this book? This is part of Julie Mulhern's Country Club Murder series. I've really enjoyed the others in the series. They are humorous cozies set in the 1970s. I'd recommend them to anyone who enjoys their mysteries with a side of humor.

What book are you waiting on this week? Share it or a link in the comments so we can check it out and maybe add it to our TBR lists. Thanks for coming by and Happy Reading!
